Rethinking our food budget

March 22nd, 2008 at 06:26 pm

I'm not going to hold us to an exact amount on our food budget. We almost never go out to eat and we deserve good food at home. Plus we make good money. I have extra money I can spend on food without charging. I won't charge food anymore. So the rule is beings we have spent our food budget for the month, I will only buy items that we need to make good dinners, lunches ect. I also want to be able to take advantage of sale item of food we need that we could stock up on. We eat very healthy and I'm alergic to sugar so we never have treats in the house, but I do feel we should be able to eat ribeye steaks at least twice a month if we want too.

I won't be buying them until the first of the month because they are a really really really want not a need. Smile

I truly understand about the food budget. We just went through a major revamp of our food budget this month. I would spend without a plan costing us around $130 - $150 a week. I now have a $100 weekly grocery budget. So far, I've been spending around $60 - $99 a week.

My son went away for spring break and I noted that our grocery bill last week was $50! I hate saying this but DH and I are plotting to help him save more for his own place.
